Improving Moonee Ponds Creek

As part of ongoing efforts to improve the Moonee Ponds Creek linear park, a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge is proposed between Donald Avenue, Essendon and Hopetoun Avenue, Brunswick West.

Description

This will improve the network of paths in the local area and create a new circuit walking track option. The project will also enhance habitat and amenity values. The proposal aligns with the Moonee Ponds Creek master plan that was developed by both Moreland and Moonee Valley City Councils a few years ago.

Initial engagement about the bridge occurred in 2019, when the Chain of Ponds Collaboration* (of which both Moreland and Moonee Valley City Councils are members), developed a Concept Plan for the Moonee Ponds Creek corridor through Essendon-Brunswick West.

Community consultation on the draft Concept Plan was held in July 2019 and consultation feedback was considered as part of the revised design, in conjunction with site constraints and findings from subsequent site investigations.

Funding for the first stage of implementation has been made available in 2020-21 from Moreland and Moonee Valley City Councils and the Victorian Government (through the Victorian Government  Boosting Recreational Use of Waterways Initiative).

Latest News: The bridge and adjoining works are now complete!

We're excited to celebrate the Connecting of Communities Thursday 7 July from 10am-12noon.
